Work Boots and Hand Saws

The day before departure, the architecture students on the Potlotek Design Build project gathered with CEU staff to discuss logistics, the site, and preliminary design ideas for the outdoor education storage building. There was an air of nervous excitement; many participants have just purchased their first pair of work boots, and most don't own any tools beyond a hammer and screwdriver. For some, this will be their first time constructing anything larger than a cardboard model.

For the next two weeks, the Dal students will be sleeping in tents or in elementary school classrooms just steps from the site. The project is being built on what is now a grassy field behind the Education Administration building, near the future high school site. The Dal students and Potlotek high school students will meet for the first time tomorrow morning, and spend the coming two weeks sharing meals, design ideas, and the physical workload of building the project. Everyone is excited!
